We are pleased to announce the completion of the flooring to the prestigious Victoria Gate shopping arcade in Leeds. Having been involved in the project for over 2 years from the initial design, selection of the materials from China and installation on site the project has been met with universal architectural praise. The complexity of the project laying 13 shades of granite to a herringbone pattern, on a slope and to two separate oval arcades with granite mosaic cubes to the entrances, was the most challenging flooring installation Andrews has undertaken in our 130 year history, however due to the skill of our labour force and management, the end result is stunning.

On completion the following testimonial was received from the main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine:

“It has perhaps been one of the most technically challenging, geometrically complex and logistically constrained projects which we have been faced with. Consequently, a successful completion does not happen by accident and it is testament to the effort placed into the project by all who worked on it. I am therefore writing to you to congratulate your company on the efforts over the past 2 years in helping us achieve a successful conclusion to this landmark project.

It is perhaps unfair to single out individuals, but I would particularly like to thank your Contract Director Phil Waite and your foreman Terry Nightingale and his team of floor layers, for the professional manner in which they have conducted themselves in producing an exceptional finished product. The arcade floor is perhaps the most complex tiling project that you could have encountered with 13 different shades of granite an 5 separate module sizes, all laid to a herringbone pattern on a slope with two curved radiused arcades, and twisting of the floor into tenant doorways. The result is truly stunning. In addition Andrews have been alongside us all the way through the process, from input into the correct bedding specification, granite selection, visits to China to present and dry lay the whole arcade floor, input into jointing layouts and specification, and right through to advice on cleaning and maintenance. A first class service justifying our decision to award the contract to Andrews in the first place.

The finished product is of an excellent quality and the whole building is one we should all be proud of, and I look forward to dealing with Andrews again in future projects”.

David Firth – Project Manager Sir Robert McAlpine.
