26/09/2008 - Alba Campus
The new Quintiles testing facility in Livingston brought together three different types of floor finishes to provide a top quality finish to this project.
Large format porcelain tiles were laid in the restroom areas and the use of a contrasting natural finish field tile with a polished feature border looked extremely nice.
Polished cream Marfil was laid in random lengths in the main corridors with matching skirtings that looked striking. This material was also used to form the staircase and landing areas. We were asked to assist with elements of design within the staircase on this project and we were more than happy to oblige and provide suggestions for some finishing detaills including the step nosings and the staircase stringers.
The Cream Marfil was again used in the entrance lobby to form a feature band within the Caithness Stone floor. Although these materials are very contrasting to say the least the end result looked fantastic.
Although there was a lot of intricate cutting and setting out involved in all aspects of this project our skilled team of crafstmen carried out these works impeccably.
The running of the project ran very smoothly due to the relationship we had on site with the Muir Construction site team and we look forward to working with them again.
18/07/2008 - The Ridings, Wakefield
This large town centre shopping mall was originally tiled by A. Andrews & Sons ceramic division in 1983. Following an inspection by Centre Management 25 years later we were called back in to upgrade ramped areas within the centre to meet slip-test regulations.
The original tiles were found to be in such good condition that they could be overtiled. We were able to source carbarundum finish anti-slip tiles in similar sizes and colours as the original dis-continued ranges. Circular features were then water-jet cut to match the existing patterns on the tiled floor. Working on nights the ramps were over tiled to provide a slip resistant finish whilst maintaining the style of the original layout.
11/07/2008 - Andrews to the Rescue!
After experiencing problems with their new 2500m2 conglomerate floor (laid by others) in their headquarters at Bootle, the HSE called in A.Andrews & Sons for their technical expertise to remedy the problems. Working out of hours we stripped the existing tiles, made good the base and relaid the floor using BAL single part flexible adhesive in conjunction with schluter ditra membrane.
In other areas it was decided to strip existing movement joints and surrounding tiles, and replace them with a wider joint capable of withstanding greater stresses. In addition to this a further 700nr cracked and snipped 600*300mm conglomerate tiles were chopped out and replaced by men working in moveable tents to avoid dust contamination to other areas of the building.
All works were carried out to the satisfaction of the contractor Kajima Construction and the many HSE inspectors who work from the building.
