Company Statement on Health & Safety
1. The Board of Directors regard the promotion of Health & Safety measures as a mutual objective for management and employees at all levels.
2. It is therefore this Company's policy to do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent personal injury and damage to property and to protect everyone from foreseeable work hazards, including the public where they come into contact with the Company's or its products.
3. In particular the Company has responsibility to:
- Provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions.
- Provide training and instruction to enable employees to perform their work safely and efficiently.
- Make available all necessary safety devices and protective equipment and supervise their use.
- Maintain a constant interest in Health & Safety matters applicable to the
- Company's activities and for its management to set an example in safe behaviour.
4. Employees have a duty to co-operate in the operation of this policy by:-
- Working safely and efficiently
- Using and maintaining the protective clothing and equipment provided.
- Reporting to their Supervisors incidents that have led or could lead to injury or damage.
- Adhering to Company procedures for securing a safe place of work.
- Assisting in the investigating of accidents with the objective of introducing measures to prevent a recurrence.
The Health & Safety Policy will be kept under constant review and will be modified as circumstances dictate.
This statement of Company Policy relative to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is supported by full working details of the organisation and the arrangements in operation.
The Company accepts its moral and legal responsibility to protect its personnel from the unnecessary suffering accompanying accidents at work.

General Arrangements for Health & Safety
Please Note: this part does not include detailed working documents such as COSHH Assessments, Risk Assessments, Training Records etc. these are available for inspection.
The following schedule is the framework for ensuring that the promises made in the Health and Safety Policy Statement signed by the Managing Director are kept. The Detailed Arrangements are kept at Head Office. They provide all the detailed documents and evidence that action, assessments, training, communications etc. have taken place.
1. COMMUNICATIONS
1.1 As required by the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996 regular meetings will take place between Management and Employees and will be attended by the Managing Director and, as necessary, by Bielby and Charles as Safety Advisors to the Company. Meetings will also take place with groups of employees as necessary.
1.2 The Company Safety Policy Statement and their Personal Responsibilities for Safety shall be given to all full and part time employees on recruitment and they will sign that they understand them.
1.3 Management will ensure that employees have all available information to ensure their safety.
1.4 Each member of staff will be required to agree his/her Personal Responsibilities for Health and Safety with their Manager and sign that they will abide by them.
2. HAZARDS
2.1 The Company will ensure a systematic approach to identification and elimination of hazards by:-
2.1.1 Inspections by specialist advisors and management.
2.1.2 Requiring employees to report defects.
2.1.3 Ensuring that products / equipment purchased conform to the required Health and Safety standards.
3. ASSESSMENT OF RISKS
3.1 Once a hazard that cannot be eliminated has been identified the risk to employees will be assessed in writing as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992. The adequacy of the control measures in place will form part of that assessment.
3.2 The Company will also ensure that assessments are undertaken as required by the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2000, the Noise at Work Regulations 1989 and any other relevant legislation.
4. SAFE SYSTEMS OF WORK
4.1 Every work task for which an element of risk remains will be subject to a "Safe System of Work" agreement in writing between the employees at risk and the Management.
4.2 The Safe System of Work will be reviewed at least annually or when required by Management or the employees involved.
4.3 When agreed the Safe System of Work for each work task will be signed by the Managing Director and the employees involved.
5. CONSTRUCTION, DESIGN & MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS
5.1 When appointed as a Principal Contractor under the above regulations we consider our Key Tasks are as follows:-
5.1.1 Develop and implement the Health and Safety Plan.
5.1.2 Be reasonably satisfied that when arranging for a sub-contractor ot carry out construction work they are competent and have made adequate provision for health and safety.
5.1.3 Obtain and check safety method statements for sub-contractors.
5.1.4 Ensure the co-ordination and co-operation of sub-contractors (particularly under the MHSW Regulations and PUWE Regulations).
5.1.5 Ensure training for Health and Safety is carried out.
5.1.6 Have appropriate communication arrangements between contractors on site for health and safety.
5.1.7 Make arrangements for discussing health and safety matters with people on site.
5.1.8 Display notification details.
5.1.9 Monitor health and safety performance.
5.1.10 Pass information of the Planning Supervisor for the Health and Safety file.
5.2 When appointed as a "Contractor" under the above Regulations our duties are essentially to support the "Principal Contractor" and to take responsibility for the Health and Safety of our own employees and others affected by their work under existing Health and Safety Legislation.
Our Key Tasks when involved on site under the control of a Principal Contractor are as follows:-
5.2.1 Identify the hazards of our work, assess the risks arising from these hazards and tell the Principal Contractor how these risks are to be controlled.
5.2.2 Inform the Principal Contractor of any death, injury, ill health or dangerous occurrence.
5.2.3 Provide the Principal Contractor with information to be included in the Health and Safety file which will need to be produced at the end of the contract.
5.2.4 Co-operate with the Principal Contractor and other contractors on site.
5.2.5 Comply with the rules in the Health and Safety Plan.
5.2.6 Follow any directions of the Principal Contractor so that he can comply with his legal duties under CDM Regulations.
5.2.7 Provide information to our employees.
6. PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT
6.1 After assessment of the risks involved, as required by the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992, the Company undertakes to supply any necessary clothing and equipment which must be worn at all appropriate times and is detailed on the Company PPE Schedule.
6.2 Abuse of such clothing or equipment is a disciplinary offence and contravenes Section 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
7. FIRE
7.1 Management will ensure that Fire Appliances are provided in the correct locations, are in good working order, are inspected regularly and records kept.
7.2 All employees will know:-
7.2.1 The Fire Precautions in operation and any special rules that apply.
7.2.2 The Fire Emergency and Evacuation plan and the part they must play.
7.2.3 How to use the appliances.
7.3 Management are to ensure that regular fire drill practices take place and that they are recorded.
7.4 Management will ensure that provision of adequate and clearly signed fire exits which are to be kept free swinging and unobstructed.
8. FIRST AID
8.1 A competent First Aider is to be present on site at all times and his / her location will be made known in writing and by workplace signs to all employees.
8.2 The location of First Aid boxes will be clearly displayed.
8.3 The competent First Aider will take charge in the event of injury or illness and will appoint a deputy to act in his / her absence.
9. ACCIDENTS - REPORTING & INVESTIGATION
9.1 All accidents are to be reported to Management and entered in the Accident Book.
9.2 All near misses are to be reported to Management since the lessons learned may prevent injury in the future.
9.3 As required by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, Management must report to HSE any accident that causes an absence from work of three days or more.
9.4 All significant accidents will be formally investigated. Any such investigation undertaken by the Company will not seek to apportion blame but will be used as a means of preventing similar incidents from re-occurring.
10. TRAINING
10.1 Employees shall be instructed about hazards in the workplace and shall receive all necessary training to enable them to work safely, as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
10.2 Induction - All new recruits (and those changing jobs within the Company) will receive safety training before they start work.
10.3 Management - The Company will provide training as appropriate and this includes training in Safety Management techniques.
10.4 Specialist - The Company will provide such training as appropriate
10.5 First Aid - It is the Company's policy in accordance with Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 to provide such numbers of suitable persons as is adequate for rendering first aid.
10.6 Fire - All employees shall receive:-
10.6.1 Written instructions containing advice in fire prevention and the action to be taken in the event of fire.
10.6.2 Practical training in the use of fire fighting and fire alarm equipment.
11. CONTRACTORS WORKING ON COMPANY PREMISES
11.1 Any contractor entering into a contract to work on Company premises will be provided on tendering, with a Safety Plan as required by the Construction, Design and Management Regulations and the name of the Planning Supervisor who will liaise with him as required by the Regulations.
11.2 Any such contractor would be required to provide evidence of his Health and Safety Policy and arrangement for making it work.
11.3 The closest supervision will be exercised over all contractors whilst they are on site.
12. PLANT & EQUIPMENT
12.1 The Company accepts the responsibility for ensuring conformity to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. Regular maintenance checks will take place on all equipment and a record kept of the results. This procedure will be followed regardless of whether or not the checks are conducted by the Company, a Contractor or by the Insurer.
13. VISITORS
13.1 The Company will ensure that all reasonable measures are taken to safeguard visitors and that they are made aware of the position.
13.2 Visitors will be recorded, signed in and out
13.3 In the event of any evacuation in an emergency visitors are in the care of those they came to see. They must be directed to a place of safety while the employee reports to the assembly point.
14. SAFETY ADVISOR
14.1 The Company has retained the services of Bielby and Charles to help them fulfil their statutory obligations and to provide advice on how to continue to improve Health and Safety standards by keeping abreast of current and new legislation.
